Summary & awards ceremony of TOEFL & IC3 challenge in Ho Chi Minh city 2019–2020

On October 29, 2020, the best individuals and groups competed in the TOEFL Primary Challenge, TOEFL Junior Challenge and international Informatics competitions IC3 Spark Challenge, IC3 Challenge in Ho Chi Minh City was honored and awarded at the SUMMARY & AWARDS Ceremony organized by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City collaboration with IIG Vietnam – National Representative of the American Institute of Educational Testing (ETS) and the world’s leading Informatics Testing Group Certiport (USA) held at the City Hall of the Party Committee.

At this year’s TOEFL Primary competition, it is noteworthy that among 362 candidates from HCMC. In addition, 7 contestants from Ho Chi Minh City won the National Consolation Prize of 2 TOEFL Primary Challenge and TOEFL Junior Challenge competitions, bringing the total number of candidates from HCMC who won the National Prize to the number 8 out of 23 prizes.

At the Closing Ceremony, the Organizing Committee presented Medals, Certificates of Merit, and cash and in-kind prizes to the winners of the city-level prizes in primary school (TOEFL Primary Challenge) and junior high school (TOEFL Junior Challenge). At the same time, the Organizing Committee of the contest also honored 11 Departments of Education and Training and 37 Primary and Secondary Schools with candidates who achieved excellent results and had the largest number of candidates participating in the two contests.

With the IC3 Spark Challenge computing competition for primary school age, entering the 4th year held in Ho Chi Minh City. In Ho Chi Minh City, thousands of candidates from nearly 200 primary schools in 23 districts competed in the first two rounds of selection contests. The contest selected the 100 best candidates in the HCMC area to participate in the 3rd round – the decisive round and the basis for ranking the contestants. The results of this year’s competition are very encouraging with 25% of the candidates getting the certificate of key application components, 50% of the candidates getting the certificate of the basic computer component, 50% of the candidates getting the certificate of the component Online life. In particular, in Round 3, up to 73 out of 100 candidates achieved 700/1000 points in all 3 IC3 Spark component exams and were granted a full IC3 Spark certificate from Certiport Corporation of America.

For the IC3 Challenge International Informatics Competition for middle school students, a large number of contestants from more than 50 secondary schools in 17 districts competed in the first two selection rounds. The 80 best contestants have been selected for the 3rd round of – the contest that determines the ranking of the awards. The results of the Competition showed that 50% of the candidates obtained certificates of key application components; 19% of the candidates passed the Basic Computing component certificate and 51% of the candidates achieved the Online Life component certificate. Of the 80 candidates who took part in Round 3, 46 candidates qualified in all 3 IC3 GS4 component exams and were awarded a full IC3 GS4 certificate from Certiport.

At the Closing Ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu – Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training. Ho Chi Minh City had a speech, in which they highly appreciated the meaning of international English and Informatics playgrounds for students in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh. TOEFL Primary Challenge, TOEFL Junior Challenge and IC3 Spark Challenge, IC3 Challenge were brought to students in the city. Ho Chi Minh City as well as the whole country, the playgrounds of English and Informatics are full of wisdom. All students participating in the competition have experienced first-hand the English and Informatics tests according to international standards in a systematic and consistent manner, thereby determining their ability compared to their peers in Vietnam and beyond are classmates in the world, from which there is a basis to continue training to improve their level.
